Pixel art aesthetics captivated Tero Juuti in the 1980s. He initially worked with the Commodore 64 and Amiga, and later with Photoshop. The minimalism of pixel art and the technical challenges inherent to the medium continue to appeal to him still to this day.

In the exhibition, Insert Coin, Juuti draws inspiration from retro style and nostalgia, as well as the imagination of a contemporary illustrator. Juuti’s pixel animations humorously depict everyday observations as video game-like events. As a graphic designer and illustrator, Juuti is interested in playfulness, randomness, impermanence and the changes that follow, as well as new and unusual ways of seeing things.

Juuti is a Helsinki-based graphic designer and illustrator, who incorporates typography, lettering, pixel art, animation and motion graphics into his work. He uses the same visual language in his art as in his design practice, and has exhibited his work internationally in galleries and museums.
