In early summer, Galleria Kuvitus will treat visitors to delicious food-themed illustrations. We’ll offer a selection of playful illustrations by Carla Ladau, inspired by the Italian culinary world. The exhibition Cosa Bolle in Pentola? (“What’s cooking?”) appeals not only to lovers of illustration, but also to anyone with a heart for cooking and tasty treats.
According to Ladau, flavours open doors to different countries and cultures. A keen interest in food and cooking also helped the Finnish student integrate into Italy in the 90s. Food brought people together and provided a starting point for conversations. Italian cuisine has kept its place in her heart through all changes and transformations in life. Tastes, smells and colours carry with them emotions and memories.
Ladau’s simple, streamlined illustrations capture a love for simple home cooking made with quality ingredients. Italian food and society follow old traditions and Ladau depicts the subject with a twinkle in her eye, whether describing someone’s passion for food or the power relations between genders.
