Ivanda Jansone is an illustrator, visual artist, and comic artist working in Helsinki, currently pursuing a master’s degree in printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts. Jansone’s debut comic book album, Mustavalkoinen mestariteos (Black and White Masterpiece), was published in the fall of 2023 by Suuri Kurpitsa. The work was nominated for the Comics Finlandia 2023 Award and was a finalist for the Most Beautiful Books 2023.
The June exhibition features pencil and charcoal original drawings from the acclaimed album as well as other comics published. Hands play an important role in Jansone’s wordless storytelling.
Hands are a universal symbol of creativity and an extension of thought. With hands, one can express emotions. In an abstract, digital world, working with hands is tangible. It calms, enhances learning, and fosters creativity. The exhibition is thus an ode to hands and creating by hands.
Ivanda Jansone can be found at the gallery on Sundays, June 9th and 30th at 12pm-4pm. Welcome to meet and greet the illustrator!
