The year of Galleria Kuvitus culminates in Pinja Meretoja’s exhibition, which is based on the illustrator’s first work Pullervo – Suuri kirja saimaannorpasta (‘The Great Book about the Saimaa Ringed Seal’, Tammi, 2021). The illustrated, colourful children’s non-fiction book contains plenty of information about the life, history and future prospects of the Saimaa ringed seal, and how the conservation of the species can be promoted. If the Saimaa ringed seal disappears from Lake Saimaa, it will disappear from the entire world.
Pullervo the Saimaa Ringed Seal is the star of Meretoja’s first solo exhibition, which showcases both digital and manual methods. On display are selected illustrations from the book, new screen prints, as well as a set of images inspired by the nature and plants of the Saimaa region.
