Jenni Salminen
Hi! I'm Jenni Salminen (she/her), a Helsinki-based artist and a self-taught freelance illustrator. My career as an illustration artist began with pencil drawings, but today I create mostly digital art, using Procreate, Apple Pencil, Adobe Photoshop, and/or Illustrator. My work has been featured, for example, in various Finnish magazines, children’s songbooks, and single/album covers.
Artist statement
Simple, refined images, often served with a hint of a smile. Soft tones and playfulness are definitely my thing, though the theme isn’t always light. In my art, realism is mixed with a dreamlike world, where anything is possible.

For my illustrations I use Procreate and Apple Pen. I also handle Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. In addition to digital art, I've made several pencil portraits of people of different ages. Drawing with a more traditional pencil technique brings a nice balance alongside working on a pad/computer.

Calm on the outside, but messy on the inside. Trying to be strong, though there’s the weight of the world on her shoulders. Worrying about her loved ones, worrying about herself, feeling inadequate. Only tears reveal something’s going on beneath the surface.
While making this piece, I thought about overachievement and the pressure we set for ourselves, but also about the current state of the world, where mums and dads try to protect their children and keep them safe from the unkind world.

Do you ever wonder what it would be like if dinosaurs were still around and lived here with us? Those enormous creatures that would make humans feel like tiny flies next to them.
I find myself thinking about it, surprisingly often, and this piece was born from one of those moments. Though there’s no brontosaurus here.

The seemingly modest stem enables the flower to thrive, supporting and holding it upright, helping it reach the light.
Through this piece, I hope everyone has at least one person who supports and helps them shine bright.
