Lotta Maija
Hei there! I'm Lotta Maija, an illustrator from Helsinki, focusing on pattern design and illustrations.
My style is recognisable and the background in textile design has sparked a love for screen print like flat-colour surfaces that are often prominent in my work. Inspired by all things organic and cute, my aesthetics comes to life in playful fruit and flora illustrations and patterns. A signature colour palette plays a significant role in my work. My working process starts always with drawing by and I think having a physical connection with work and having the body with me in the creative process is invaluable part of the progress.
I have lived in Japan twice while studying and working, and have deep understanding of the culture and print market.
There is always room in my calendar for new rendezvous and fun projects. Don't hesitate to contact me even if it's just to chat. :-)
I master the stages of pattern design and illustration from sketch to final product. I specialize in herbal theme.

Pattern design / Marimekko (2018)
In 2018 I designed three repeating patterns for Marimekko’s home and ready-to-wear collections. The prints were originally painted by hand on paper and finalised in digital format. I drew inspiration for the designs, Kasvio, Apilainen, Palsta, Herbaario and Tuulahdus, from old herbarium books and a summer cottage’s garden.
I liked to play with dimensions, movement and create my own imaginative plants.

Pattern Design / Petit Pli (2023)
Clothes that grow.
Petit Pli, founded in 2017, aims to clothe the future of humanity, and they’re starting with the next generation. Petit Pli uses plissé-technique to expand the lifespan of children wear. This means Petit Pli offers three sizes for children from a newborn to age 9. As the child grows, the clothes’ foldings opens up little by little.
I designed a blooming flower pattern for their limited edition collection. My aim was to create a pattern that would be interesting when folded and opened. The patterns stripy details keep the print interesting as the lines go different directions.
