Janne Korsumäki began his career by working on game projects and creating illustrations for books and products. Today, he’s living his childhood dream of working in animation: first at Rovio and later on at Gigglebug Entertainment, where he works on the Gigglebug series, among other things.

“I’ve always loved animation and what I love even more is what isn’t visible in the end result, which is all the work and art that goes into making an animated film or series,” Korsumäki says.

The Ephemeral exhibition at Galleria Kuvitus highlights animation as an art form. The exhibition depicts the evolution of the animation industry and the journey of an animator from the 1970s to the present day.

Through his exhibition, Korsumäki details what happens in the animation process from the initial idea to the eventual production: Synopsis, storyboard, drafts, post-it drafts, etc.

During his career, Korsumäki has been thinking about artistry as well as the commercial expectations of the productions. His exhibition shows the disappearing art form of ‘process art’ that is often hidden from the general public.
