The theme of the World Peace Right After Lunch Break exhibition arises from the beauty of community and, on the other hand, from the contradictions related to sharing things. The exhibition approaches the theme through illustration, graphic design, animation, video art and ceramic works.
The Rihmasto (Mycelium) working group consists of 12 professional illustrators and designers, among whom friendship and collegial support flourish. Almost all members of the group have at some point worked at the Super8 studio in Kallio, some throughout the studio’s entire 22-year history. In the everyday encounters and celebrations of the shared studio, it has become clear how important it is to belong to different communities. And as in this case – to be able to share ideas about art, design and life in general. The works in the exhibition are the subjective views of their creators on community, but the work is exposed to the gaze of the group. The artists have exchanged ideas about each other’s works and allowed the community’s views to influence their own work.
The exhibition features: Jussi Karjalainen, Ilja Karsikas, Antti Kyrö, Mira Mallius, Christer Nuutinen, Tuomo Parikka, Pauli Salmi, Sami Saramäki, Kasper Strömman and Vilja Tuikkanen, as well as Tom Backström, who created the visual identity, and Willem Heeffer, who is responsible for the exhibition design.
