Anu-Riikka Lampinen

Hi, I'm Anu-Riikka Lampinen, an illustrator, artist and graphic designer with a pedagogical background (lto, eo).

In addition to illustrating nature, children and animals, I get excited about emotions, moods, learning, fairy tales and stories. I draw on paper and digitally but I also paint on canvas and walls and create miniature sculptures. I also like to draw infographics and logos.


I commit to the agreed schedule, come up with ideas and listen to the entire work group. I like teamwork, and I'm flexible.

I am particularly good at illustrations in which I can use colors and imagination. I enjoy creating different characters. I have illustrated several children's books and materials aimed at children as well as educational materials. In my illustration work, I flexibly use different techniques from traditional watercolor to digital painting.

I was chosen to illustrate and create the layout for Sinikka Piippo’s Metsän lumo: children’s own non-fiction book about trees, nature and seasons. The book is intended for readers aged 8-12. Metsä lumo is a large, 120-page, fully illustrated collection. The book contains a comprehensive information package about trees, moving around in nature and taking care of the environment.

For the book, I created the character Kuisma, who walks in the forest looking at the world through the eyes of a child and talking to trees and animals. At my suggestion, there is also a one-word level, so that even the youngest readers can get to know the forest and nature independently.

The material is called Kaverikaruselli ja 79 vuorovaikutusleikkiä (A Carousel of Friends and 79 Interaction Games) and published by PS Publishing in Spring 2022.

The material contains a guide for introducing interactive games in a group setting or at home, as well as game descriptions and game-describing cards. I illustrated all the cards by drawing them with vectors.

Missä on Jyrkin mäki ja muita mysteerejä (Where is Jyrki’s Hill and Other Mysteries) is a collection of short stories for young people written by Elina Komulainen, for which I drew some subject pictures, vignette pictures, mystery signs, and the covers. I also did the layout design for this book.

Black and white line drawing combined with watercolor was chosen as the illustration technique. In the cover design, I used line drawings and a vector drawing program (Adobe Illustrator).

The book was published by Pääjalkainen in 2022.
