Elina Puohiniemi
Hi, I'm Elina Puohiniemi, aka elinap (she/her). I make illustrations for textbooks and online trainings, for educators, coaches and authors. I also publish my own books about spiritual growth.
My favorite kind of illustrations are bursting with details that children can explore and always find something new.
I get my inspiration from both the beauty of nature and the human nature. Strengthening children's relationship with nature is close to my heart and I love to spread a joyful, happy attitude towards life.
My working languages are Finnish and English.
Books are my passion! I enjoy each step of the process from sketches to illustrations, designing the layout, and preparing the files for print.
ET Magazine, Parents' Association of Kivistö region KiVa ry, City of Kouvola, The Association of Friends of the University Children's Hospitals, Limor Oy, Maatalouden laskentakeskus, Meidän Suomi Magazine, Partioaitta’s 365-klubi, Project Positive Change, Pulina-Alina, Sari Salo Oy, Finnish Climbing Association, Suomen Latu - The Outdoor Association of Finland, Haltia - the Finnish Nature Centre, City of Vantaa, Äänneloikka Oy
Aerial Publishing
“Working with Elina is a creative’s dream. As a collaborative partner, she is fully present in the creative process, listening intently and offering suggestions that made my children’s book project more impactful, meaningful, and FUN! Her ability to understand the big picture AND notice small details is a gift, while her expertise is much appreciated and admired.”
-Jessica Tudos, Author of Kika the Upside-Down Girl

Coloring Pictures for Teacher’s Online Membership / Sari Salo Oy
Multiple coloring pictures for functional learning online school educational materials.
The pictures burst with details and events, emotions, different natural phenomena related to the seasons, as well as hidden ”treasures” and surprises.
Each picture helps children learn in their own way, for example by finding letters and emotions in them as well as writing stories based on them. The pictures inspire a joyful learning experience!
The illustrations were brainstormed together with Sari Salo. That’s my favorite way of working – through collaboration!
As agreed, only details from the illustrations that I’ve colored with coloring pencils are published in my portfolio.

Licensing Coloring Pictures / The Association of Friends of the University Children's Hospitals
There are dozens of detail-filled coloring pictures in my archives, the licenses of which can be purchased.
It’s possible to hone the coloring pictures to your liking, as in these pictures licensed by The Association of Friends of the University Children’s Hospitals, by adding the association’s mascot, Teemu-nalle, to the pictures.
The Association of Friends of the University Children’s Hospitals is a charitable organization, which supports the five Finnish University Children’s Hospitals, development and research, and attempts to improve the comfort of patients during their hospital stay with a total of 114,000 overnight child patients per year.
This project was close to my heart because as a three-year-old I spent a week in one of these hospitals and remember coloring a lot to pass the time. That’s one of my earliest artist memories too!
I originally drew these coloring pictures within the framework of my Tarinatädin värityskuvat brand [Storyteller Auntie’s Coloring Pictures] during 2015-2019. I visited numerous elementary schools and kindergartens and hosted drawing performances. I drew the wishes of each member of the group as we spoke and turned them into a shared coloring picture that they could color and tell stories from. The project was seen as an empowering experience for the whole group because every child equally got their ideas and voices heard. Stories could be told about the adventures and events of the pictures for a long time.

Christmas Calendar Coloring Pictures / My brand project
For six years, I published a Christmas calendar coloring pictures each Christmas under my Tarinatädin värityskuvat brand [Storyteller Auntie’s Coloring Pictures].
These coloring pictures encouraged families and school classes to spend a small moment together every day, coloring one numbered part of the picture at a time. These coloring pictures inspired children to look for Christmas magic and make up their own Christmas stories.
In the Christmas calendars, domestic animals, elves, as well as animals of the forest and savannas, played together in perfect harmony. Some characters were repeated in the pictures year after year, so the stories told from the pictures could be continued with familiar characters. I also wrote and posted my own imaginative stories, GIFs, videos or coloring tips inspired by the newest coloring picture every day.
2016: Christmas by the Lake
2017: Christmas in the Enchanted Forest
2018: Christmas in a Big House
2019: Christmas at a Treehouse
2020: Christmas School with Mother Christmas
2021: Christmas at the Whimsy Cliffs
The Christmas calendar coloring pictures were available as PDF files in my online store in both Finnish and English. You could print them for yourself or a group of children in either A4 or A3 size. The Christmas calendars could be placed in pairs next to each other, allowing the siblings to color their own Christmas calendars and create a bigger colorful Christmas experience together.
The rights to use coloring Christmas calendars are for sale under certain conditions, please send me an email if you would like to learn more!
Portfolio images are colored with coloring pencils by me.

The Four Phases of Creativity / Self-Published Book
The Four Phases of Creativity – A Path to Unleashing the Natural Flow of Your Creativity
In this self-published book I introduced how I’ve embraced the cyclical nature of creativity and how understanding creativity more deeply has helped me accept all the different phases of it and avoid procrastination, overwhelm and anxiety when it comes to the creative process. When we honor the cyclical nature of life, the natural ebbs and flows of seasons, moon phases and our own body, our life gets easier.
The book is written in English and it has illustrations throughout the book. My symbolic doodle character Mira and her friends lead the reader through the phases and also help when struggles arise.
Published in 2021 as hard cover, and paperback in 2022.
Self-publishing this and the books that followed has taught me to love all the steps from getting my ideas in between covers with illustrations to how to sell books on a global scale with on-demand printing platforms.
This has proven me that my true passion is books and I’ve loved to also help other authors with my knowledge on self-publishing as well as with my illustration and graphic design skills to make their dreams come true too.

“MIRA shows you how to navigate life’s hardships, see the ego’s tricks for what they are, and return to love. With just few words and simple drawings she leads you on a direct and clear path to deep life lessons and conjures feelings of joy, compassion, courage, and hope.” – Tami Robinson, Associate Integral Coach, Yoga Therapist, and Author
The doodles in this collection were drawn daily in October 2018 & 2019, inspired by the one-word prompts of Jake Parker’s INKTOBER challenge. They are presented in the same order as the prompts were given, with four short stories in between.
