Elina Savolainen
Hi, I'm Elina Savolainen, a pattern designer, illustrator and pattern workshop teacher from Helsinki. I am inspired by plants, animals, colours and especially free line, which can be used to tell stories and create different atmospheres. When printed on fabric, stories get a soft feel, shape and use! Listening to the client is what unites everything I work. I like wish fulfillment and teamwork. I work in Finnish as well as English. Feel free to contact me!
I have designed hundreds of patterns for production. I am able to create a wide variety of styles according to the needs and wishes of the customer. I am good at working in a team and staying on schedule. I can take into account the requirements of industrial printing techniques. I also guide people to make their own designs in Piirrä omat kuosisi -workshops.
Finlayson, Nanso, Stockmann BOGI, Stockmann Noom, Marja Kurki, DOPP, Into, Matelin lahja-aitta, Seppälä, Sleep Circle, Suomenkerta, Univisio, Wear-abouts.
"I have had the pleasure to have Elina in my team, working as a children’s clothing designer for Stockmann. Elina is an unbelievably talented graphic designer. The world of stories she can capture in her prints is both beautiful and innovative for children and their parents.
Elina delivers well thought-out designs, and always meets customers’ expectations. Her way of analyzing trends and handling color and assortment management has made the collections interesting, commercial, and new for all seasons. She communicates ideas in an innovative way while embracing customers’ needs and production in the supply chain. Elina’s creativity has been recognized in our team and her prints have been used also in our collections for women and men.
Elina has been a great asset to our team both professionally and as a wonderful person to work with. I am happy to recommend Elina."

Children's clothing collection / Stockmann BOGI
I designed two autumn collections with patterns for Stockmann’s own children’s clothing brand BOGI. Each collection included 35 patterns and more than 60 targeted illustrations. I built the collections in close collaboration with the buyer and the model master. The most important thing when designing the patterns and illustrations was to keep the child-wearer and the adult buyer in mind and to create a happy, playful and attractive ensemble for them.

The Dogs of Paris -pattern / Stockmann Noom
Stockmann Noom commissioned a pattern for the Christmas nightwear collection with the theme Parisian dogs. The idea was a subtly playful pattern suitable for satin and jersey nightwear, which could be used to create placement prints for the collection’s t-shirts. The pattern was produced in two different colours.

Illustrations for scarves / Marja Kurki
I designed illustrations for Marja Kurje’s scarves both as an in-house designer and as a freelancer for Finnish and Asian collections. When designing scarves, it is essential to consider the usability of the illustration as an accessory. The illustration must look interesting from any angle. I often design each corner of the scarf differently. The materials are largely silk, but there is also merino wool.

Our Joensuu -pattern / Matel's gift house
I designed a pattern for Matel’s gift house, which tells the story of life in the city of Joensuu and its surrounding areas. The colourful pattern features many familiar places and symbols related to local cultural heritage. I made the pattern based on the wishes of the customer and a joint discussion. It was a pleasure to design a pattern that holds a lot of meaning!

Product illustrations for fabrics and AR application / WEAR-ABOUTS
For a small company WEAR-ABOUTS, I designed prints of fabric products and a visual world added to them using an AR application. The augmented reality made the products multi-dimensional and brought movement to the fabric surface. One unpublished pattern also included different soundscapes.
