Mikko Kankaanpää

Hey'o! My name is Mikko Kankaanpää and I'm a freelance illustrator, comic artist, graphic designer and overall visual media Swiss army knife from Tampere, Finland.

My illustrations have appeared in textbooks, children’s and young adults’ books, websites and album covers. Oh, and comics of course.

I've also worked in web design, animation, motion graphics and photography. Occasionally but somewhat consistently I've also taught my interests at schools of various levels.

While my own style stems from the comic book addiction in my youth, I'm quite versatile and adaptable. I try my best to keep an open mind and challenge myself. Thus, I follow the world's shenanigans with peculiar interest and try to learn something new every day.

Deadlines are holy to me. If necessary, I can work through a cooperative. I work both in Finnish and English.

When illustrating, I especially enjoy sketching, composing, details and world building. I find the challenge from limitations to be exciting. I also hope to add a bit of an edge to my illustrations and work. I mainly work with digital media.

I'm surrounded by audiovisual media, which I tap into for not only inspiration and entertainment, but also for understanding the world around us.
