Nina Haiko
Hi! I'm Nina Haiko and I love colours. All kinds of colours: bright, light, different colour combinations and expressing emotions through colours. My images often convey warmth, humour, compassion and an adventurous spirit. I value social justice, equality, children's and animal rights and climate issues.
I listen carefully to my clients' wishes. I create illustrations for magazines, children’s books, textbooks, brochures, posters, events and associations. I have had the pleasure of working on wonderful collaborative projects exploring art therapy, games and puppetry. I also design patterns.
I sell my paintings for home decor. You can find my unique works for sale through the Pinterest and Instagram links, take a look.
I have had the opportunity to represent Finland in several international illustration exhibitions, such as It's Always Tea-Time 2015–2021, Tallinn Illustration Triennial and Bratislava Illustration Biennial. My working languages are Finnish, English and Swedish.
My strengths lie in the expression of emotions and atmosphere and the use of color. I also create detailed map-like illustrations, which have been very popular.
I hand paint my images to give them a fleeting energy and vibrant texture, and to my clients I deliver the works as image files that I scan with my print-quality art scanner. I process the image files as needed.

“It has been a wonderful coincidence to find an illustrator who creates strong mythical worlds, colourful and enchanting, from stories I originally wrote for puppet theatre. Not forgetting the unique sense of humour. Nina has used her illustrations to show me things about my stories that I would not have noticed myself. That's what collaboration between an illustrator and a writer is at its best. Thank you for that, Nina!”
– Oili Sadeoja, Writer, Actress and Director
"Nina has been a pleasure to work with and her illustrations have been easy to trust. She masters the use of colour and is willing to suggest her own ideas as well."
– Elina Johanna Ahonen, AD of Taito Magazine (2017–2022)
