Tiina Konttila

Hi! I'm Tiina Konttila, an illustrator from Ostrobothnia who loves fun tidbits of information, history, humour and great stories. My career started with Lasten sarjisopas (S&S, 2018), a children's guide to creating comics, which I wrote and illustrated. Since then, I've been lucky to have worked on various projects, such as children's books and school materials.

I've also designed a package for crisps and the exterior of a mobile library. I'm looking forward to creating my first mural and an installation soon. I enjoy creating and hope to continue lerning and enhancing my craft. As a collaborator I am easy-going and enthusiastic.

Funny characters and humor are at the heart of what I do, but I'm interested in hearing about all kinds of projects. I work on my iPad using Procreate, and I also use Adobe software (Photoshop + inDesign) for image editing and book layouts. When schedules allow, I also do school visits and workshops based on a children's guide to creating comics that I wrote. I get excited by things easily!

Designing the new mobile library in Sievi was a dream job that started with a couple basic wishes.

Before starting the work, I discussed with librarian Pirjo Tuomimäki and welfare director Outi Santavuori what they wanted the car to look like. There were many ideas and thoughts, but the most obvious were nature, abundance and colors.

A wide range of subjects were considered for the illustrations. Would it be a good idea to put landmarks on the sides of the car? Perhaps something that communicated Sievi’s business activities? Customers?

In the end, I thought the mobile library could be something completely new. A colorful addition that would broaden the image of the area, rather than repeating familiar themes already associated with Sievi.
